In high school I took four years of Latin because the teachers were amazing and I thought it would be a great basis to have for learning languages in the future - especially Italian! When I arrived in Rome it finally hit me that I was going to be able to see all of these amazing things that I had read about and studied. I was so excited!!! Seb and I spent all day Friday and Saturday walking, riding buses, and seeing these amazing places. Here are some pictures with little stories beneath of the highlights! I apologize if they are pretty standard as far as "what to do when in Rome" goes, but hey, how could I go to Rome and not see all these places!

The view from one side of the top of the Altare Della Patria. This building is BEAUTIFUL and was the first thing we did in Rome. You can see 360 degrees and it was a great way to start off the sightseeing because I was able to get a sort of "lay of the land" as far as where things were in relation to one another. |

View NOT from the top! |
 |
Colosseum - Amazing to think that 60000+ rowdy Romans fit in this place! The noise must have been deafening! |
 |
Trevy Fountain - Couldn't get a picture with Seb because handing your camera to someone else is the perfect way to get it stolen! |
 |
Spanish Steps at night! |
 |
Drinking water from the fountain in front of the Spanish Steps because Seb said I had to. Good luck? Yes. Hygienic? Not so much. |
 |
Circus Maximus - I was so excited to see this!!!! It is not much to look at now but I can remember reenacting general course of events that would happen here in 9th grade Latin class. Everyone around me was confused as to why I was so excited to see a big depression in the ground. For me, though, seeing this was a definite moment! |

The Vatican. The Holy See. Piazza San Pietro. St. Peter's Basilica.
Words cannot describe how amazing it was to visit the Vatican. This was what I was looking forward to the most and it did not in any way disappoint. It's hard to describe the feeling in this square... it's almost electric. There were so many people speaking so many languages and clearly not all Catholic but everyone was sort of united in a the feeleing of amazement. It's so vast and grand and yet I wasn't really inimidated. We waited in line, which didn't take long at all surprisingly, went through security and entered the Basilica. It was simply stunning. |

Here I am in Piazza Navona. The architect, Bernini, who did the fountain was not asked to also do the church that you can see on the right side of the photo so he made this particular statue look scared that the church is going to fall on him! Bernini sure knew how to make a public statement. |

Temple of the Vestal Virgins in the ancient Forum area. I was so excited to see this because of learning about it in Latin! I would write more about it but I realize it's probably not that interesting to most people in the grand scheme of things... |

Acting Roman... |
Well these pictures don't encompass everything I visited but I think they're a pretty good summary! Rome was amazing!
