Models Models Everywhere
This past week was women's fashion week here in Milan and it really was quite exciting - tents around the Duomo area and people talking about the shows. My roommate even got to see a show that was done publically and another girl in my apartment was able to attend many shows (including) because of the internship she has here. For a great website to see show photos, go to http://www.style.com/. Also, there are a bunch of designer studios around my neighborhood, including Alexander McQueen (NEAT), and a lot of models can be seen walking around the streets. At this point I am an expert model spotter! I’d have to say that I enjoyed men’s fashion week more than women’s week… male models are pretty androgynous but pretty cute nonetheless! They all wear the same basic uniform: very tight, dark jeans, boots that are sleek and without a lot of seeming, fitted pea coats, scarves, a messenger bag and a distinct haircut that is Justin-Bieber-esque but with less layers.
Also, when walking out of the train/metro station near my apartment at the beginning of last week I noticed two models looking at a map and frantically trying to figure out where to go. They were talking with English accents and any words in the English language spoken within a 20 yd range of me I now can notice because, as said before, there isn’t much happening on the English scene in Milan. So they proceed to walk the same way I am and I decide this could be fun to follow them and figure out where another designer studio is. So I’m in 3 inch heels, starting to follow them, and I realize I’m losing ground fast. They have seriously LONG LEGS. I pick up my pace, and I usually walk at a pretty fast pace anyways, and I’m starting to really get a workout! They are going the exact way I go home, so it wasn’t like I was really “following” them… then at the last minute they turned and I didn’t feel like breaking into a sweat, so I abandoned course and went home (probably to eat bread and pasta)… typical. But it was a fun little adventure! There really wasn’t a point to that story but I thought I would tell it nonetheless.
